The defense lawyer had demanded an acquittal during the trial. His client should be compensated for his previous imprisonment. The prosecution had also contested the verdict of the lower court. As before the district court, the public prosecutor demanded a life sentence.
The decisive factor for the conviction was ultimately the testimony of undercover investigators. The 64-year-old Swiss man is said to have described the crime to them in detail. The district court ruled in March 2024 that only those involved in the crime could have known these details. This conclusion was now also followed by the high court.
The 64-year-old man was accused of luring a 27-year-old Egyptian man into a forest under a pretext in 2007. He is said to have shot him there. The body was then dumped in Lake Barchet.
In its ruling on Thursday, the Thurgau High Court increased the sentence of the lower court by two years. The decision is not legally binding.
