Weissmann had resigned a few days ago due to allegations of sexual harassment. The 57-year-old denies the accusation.

Thurnher, currently head of ORF radio, is considered one of the best-known faces of ORF and is familiar with Austria's largest media company from many different roles. She was a TV announcer, presenter and editor-in-chief at ORF III.

The election of a new ORF director for the period from January 2027 is due to take place in August. Weissmann was considered one of the favorites.

Among other things, the timing of the allegation, which relates to events in 2022, has led to many questions in the ORF Board of Trustees. A task force is to clarify all facets and backgrounds.
