Delsberg has joined the declaration launched by Geneva and Lausanne condemning the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip. The Ticino government also considers the efforts undertaken by Switzerland to protect the population in Gaza to be "inadequate".

The city of Delsberg is calling for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of hostages and an end to violence against the civilian population. It also calls for full and unhindered access for humanitarian aid.

Delsberg is also calling on all Swiss cities that have not yet done so to join the urgent appeal. This is the result of a statement published on Wednesday. It is in line with the resolution passed by the Jura parliament on May 21, which called on the Federal Council to take a clear stance in favor of an end to hostilities.

Ticino government calls for "clear condemnation"

The Ticino government also sent a letter to the Federal Council on Wednesday. In it, it calls for Switzerland to take a "condemning stance" towards the violations of international humanitarian law committed by the armed forces of the State of Israel during the occupation of the Gaza Strip.

The humanitarian situation in Palestine has been intolerable for some time, the press release continues. The Ticino government is of the opinion that the efforts undertaken by Switzerland to protect the population in Gaza are inadequate.

It is now time for Switzerland to issue a clear and courageous condemnation of the Israeli occupation and violations of international humanitarian law - in line with Switzerland's humanitarian tradition, as enshrined in Article 54 of the Federal Constitution, and its special responsibility as a depositary state of the Geneva Conventions.
