New safety precautions and new alarm systems are needed to counter such storms: This is what the head of the Ticino Department of Construction and Environment, Claudio Zali, said at a media conference on the situation following the storms in the upper Maggia Valley.

The increased frequency of storms like the one at the end of June in the upper Maggia Valley is the result of climate change, Zali continued in front of the media in Locarno.

In the past, such storms were an "event of the century", but now Switzerland can look back on at least two such incidents within a month.
