Russia's Santa Claus, Father Frost, has to pay several speeding fines. In the current year, he has accumulated fines of 24,500 roubles (just under 230 euros), several Russian media reported on Saturday. We are talking about the central Santa Claus performer in the small town of Veliki Ustyug in the northern Russian region of Vologda, where, according to legend, Father Frost has his residence.

Sometimes 40 to 60 kilometers per hour too fast

According to the reports, the penalties are not about New Year's Eve, when in Russia Father Frost is supposed to deliver presents to all children at the same time on his sleigh pulled by reindeer. Rather, the sleighs were three cars in which Santa Claus is said to have been driving on the roads of the Vologda region - sometimes 40 to 60 kilometers per hour too fast. Nevertheless, he is said to have already paid part of the fines.

Father Frost's residence was built 25 years ago near Veliki Ustyug and is a very successful tourist project. Since then, the local Santa Claus performer has been regarded as the real Father Frost in Russia. Visitors can visit him in his residence and bring him their wishes. There is even the opportunity to spend the night there. The rush of visitors to Veliki Ustyug is especially high in winter. For some years now, the Russian railroads have even been offering combined train and bus tickets to Father Frost's residence during the winter season.
