A flight between Mallorca and Barcelona in 2019 is still causing a stir years later. An employee of the Spanish airline Vueling denied boarding to a female passenger because she was wearing an outfit that was too risqué.
Specifically, the passenger was wearing a body that was too low-cut, according to the employee at the time. She was therefore not allowed to fly.
Despite her protest, the passenger had to stay at Palma de Mallorca Airport while her plane took off for Barcelona, reportsMallorca Magazin.
Other passengers had tried to persuade the flight attendant to let the woman on board - to no avail.
Fine of 28,000 euros
The consumer protection organization Facua reported the case to the authorities. A year later, the flight safety authority ruled in favor of the passenger and Facua.
It followed the argument that Vueling had discriminated against the woman on the basis of her clothing. The passenger had not violated any laws and had not been dressed in an offensive manner.
Vueling therefore had to pay a fine of 28,000 euros one year after the incident. It is not known whether the passenger also received compensation.
