An alliance of the middle classes, business and the left is campaigning against the abolition of the imputed rental value. They argue that without a tax deduction for house renovations, there will be fewer orders for the construction industry. And they warn against tax increases.

An amendment to the constitution will be put to the vote on September 28, giving the cantons the option of introducing a tax on vacation homes. In return, the imputed rental value is to be abolished - but only if the tax on second homes passes the vote.

With the imputed rental value, tax deductions for renovations would also be abolished. This is where the trade alliance "No to the renovation freeze" comes in. It points out that this would mean fewer orders for commercial enterprises and thousands of jobs would be at risk. The FDP, the Center Party and several business associations are represented in the alliance.

The trade alliance as well as the SP and the Greens fear that without the imposition of the imputed rental value, everyone would face higher taxes. According to the press release, there is talk of at least CHF 500 per household per year.
