In Oberwil near Zug, a man was hit and seriously injured by a train while trying to rescue his dog from the tracks. The dog did not survive the accident.

According to the Zug law enforcement authorities, the accident occurred on Wednesday evening shortly before 8.15 p.m. in Oberwil. A 40-year-old man went into the track area to retrieve his dog, which had run onto the tracks. An approaching Eurocity train hit them both, according to the communiqué.

The man was thrown away and suffered serious injuries. After first aid at the scene, the Zug rescue service took him to a hospital outside the canton. The dog died at the scene of the accident.

The accident led to delays in rail traffic. Passengers on the Eurocity train involved continued their journey on another train, it was reported.
