This was announced by Deutsche Bahn on Saturday. The extensive construction work was completed on time. Deutsche Bahn thanked all long-distance and regional customers for their patience during the construction work. Especially at the beginning of the closure, there were problems with replacement services. Passengers on regional services can still expect restrictions in September.
Important step for rail tunnel
During the work, around two kilometers of track between Rastatt and Baden-Baden were rebuilt so that the tracks coming out of the Rastatt tunnel can be connected to the Rhine Valley railroad. According to Deutsche Bahn, this is another important step on the way to commissioning the rail tunnel. This is planned for the end of 2026.
Goods are transported between the North Sea ports, important industrial regions in western Germany, Switzerland and northern Italy on the route, which is over 170 years old. The continuous four tracks are scheduled for completion in 2035, but the multi-billion euro expansion of the Rhine Valley Railway as a whole will not be completed until 2041.
