  • A dog trainer was bitten by a dog.
  • The woman was injured and still lives with restrictions today.

29 stitches on her head and 9 on her hands: Nothing has been the same in Stefanie L.'s life since one day in August 2021. The dog trainer was attacked and seriously injured by a Mastino Napoletano during a training course.

As she reported in theTagesanzeigernewspaper, Stefanie L. was attending a training course in Solothurn at the time in order to retain her license for the canton of Zurich. During an exercise, the dog suddenly attacked her and bit into her head. "I heard my scalp tearing," she says. The dog did not let go.

Only when someone poured water over the dog did the Great Dane let go. The attack not only left physical scars, but also led to post-traumatic stress disorder.

The dog belonged to a 31-year-old woman from Zurich who had imported it from Tunisia. The dog had already exhibited conspicuous behavior in the past and bit a vet. In court, the owner admitted that her dog had a "distance problem" and that she had spent several thousand francs on training.

Chronic pain and psychological problems

According to the Tagesanzeiger, the court ruled that the owner was responsible as she knew that her dog was problematic. The owner contested the penalty order as, according to her own statements, she had acted in accordance with the dog trainer's instructions and had not violated the law on keeping dogs.

Nevertheless, she was found guilty and had to pay two thirds of the legal fees and a fine of CHF 300. Stefanie L. had to undergo two operations after the attack and has suffered from chronic pain and psychological problems ever since.

She now only runs her dog school 10 percent of the time and needs a companion. She lost her office job due to the long period of illness. It is unclear whether she will ever be able to work again. She has registered for disability insurance.

The Mastino Napoletano was given a muzzle and lead requirement, but continues to attend dog school. According to the owner, he is doing better than ever.
