Rail traffic Trains are running normally again through the Gotthard Base Tunnel

Trains have been running normally through the Gotthard Base Tunnel again since Monday morning. At a media conference in Pollegio TI, Transport Minister Albert Rösti described the rail tunnel as a "central element for the movement of goods in Europe".

This means that one of the most important connections through the Alps is once again fully available. Passenger trains between the south and north will now run every half hour.

SBB estimated the material damage caused by the train derailment, including lost revenue, at around CHF 150 million.
