US President-elect Donald Trump has announced that the Japanese technology group Softbank will invest 100 billion US dollars in projects in the United States.

This investment should create 100,000 jobs in the USA, said Softbank CEO Masayoshi Son during a joint appearance with Trump at his Mar-a-Lago estate in the US state of Florida. The money is to flow over the next four years.

This "historic investment" is a demonstration of confidence in America's future, said Trump. It would help to build "artificial intelligence, new technologies and other industries of tomorrow".

During the appearance, Trump also tried to persuade the head of the Japanese technology investor to double his investment to 200 billion US dollars. He said that he would try. Softbank had already pledged to invest 50 billion US dollars after Trump's first election victory in 2016.
