US President Donald Trump has threatened the EU with tariffs of 200 percent on wine, champagne and other alcoholic beverages from France and other EU countries.

The US would impose these tariffs shortly if the EU did not withdraw the planned tariff on American whiskey.

The EU wants to counter the new American tariffs on steel and aluminum imports with counter-tariffs on US goods worth billions. Some of the additional tariffs are set to be as high as 50 percent - for example on Jack Daniel's whiskey. Trump claimed that the EU was founded for the sole purpose of taking advantage of the United States.
