Colorful carnival figures paraded through Einsiedeln on Güdel Monday during the Sühudiumuzug. The Sühudis were accompanied by Tüüfeln and Trychlern.

There is no organizer of the Sühudiumzug. "The procession "simply forms", writes the Einsiedeln carnival society Goldmäuder. The village square comes alive from 8 o'clock. "At nine o'clock, the first Tüüfel set off in the direction of the monastery without any command or other instructions."

The devils look terrifying with their red tongues and huge horns. They are equipped with pitchforks and have the task of bringing the people of the pilgrim and monastery village of Einsiedeln to the carnival. They are followed by the Trychler and then the army of wildly motley Sühudis.

Nothing unsavory

Sühudis only exist in Einsiedeln. Even if the name sounds like it, they have nothing to do with "unsavory things", the Goldmäuder assure us.

There is no prescribed costume for the Sühudis. Anyone who has a good idea for a costume can transform themselves into a scary or bizarre Sühudi and take part in the parade, wearing old clothes and a costume of their choice. A real Sühudi intrigues, i.e. he plays jokes on the public standing at the side of the road.

The carnival was heralded in Einsiedeln early on Güdel Monday by trychlers. In the afternoon, a procession of floats moves through the village. The Trychler end the carnival on Tuesday evening, after the Pagat, the Einsiedeln carnival figure, has been burnt.
