Following the fatal shootings of three young people in Uppsala, Sweden, investigators have arrested two more suspects, including a teenager and a man aged around 20. Both are accused of being accessories to murder, the police and public prosecutor's office announced. This means that six suspects are currently in custody in the case, including a 20-year-old man suspected of murder.

Three people between the ages of 15 and 20 were killed in the shooting at a hairdressing salon in the center of Uppsala on Tuesday. A 16-year-old who was initially arrested was released after the suspicions against him were not substantiated.

Background suspected in the gang milieu

The police are investigating the extent to which the crime in the university town north of Stockholm has anything to do with the serious gang crime that Sweden has been struggling with for years. According to unconfirmed information from the radio station SVT, it could be linked to a local gang conflict that has been smouldering for some time.

According to the broadcaster, the murder suspect is said to be a gang member with a criminal record from Södertälje, just 80 kilometers south of Uppsala. According to SVT, two of the three people shot have links to a group in Uppsala that is considered part of the criminal milieu - the youngest of the victims, however, does not.
