The Zurich cantonal police caught two parcel thieves in Horgen on Wednesday afternoon: they, a 20-year-old German and a 15-year-old Romanian, tried to flee, but their vehicle was stopped by a garden wall.

Investigators from the cantonal police had observed shortly before 3 p.m. how a man took a parcel from a post box in an apartment building and quickly got into a waiting car, as the police reported on Thursday.

When the driver noticed the police, he sped off. In order to avoid a police car, he steered his car down a small flight of steps. The tires and the vehicle were damaged in the process. The parcel thief continued to press on the gas pedal - but he lost control of the car, which then crashed into a garden wall at excessive speed.

The two occupants abandoned the completely demolished car and fled on foot. During the manhunt, police officers recognized the young man and the teenager shortly afterwards and arrested them.
