The number of unemployed people in Switzerland continued to rise slightly in September. However, the unemployment rate remained at 2.8 percent. Adjusted for seasonal factors, the rate rose slightly by 0.1 percentage points to 3.0 percent.

At the end of September, a total of 133,233 people were registered as unemployed in the regional employment centers (RAV), as reported by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (Seco) on Monday. This was 1128 people or 0.9 percent more than in August.
The number of young unemployed (15 to 24-year-olds) increased by 1.3 percent, with the youth unemployment rate remaining unchanged at 3.2 percent. The number of older unemployed (50 to 64-year-olds) was 1.0% higher than the previous month's figure (rate unchanged at 2.5%).
More jobseekers
While the unemployment figures did not move much, there was more movement on the job market. The number of jobseekers rose by 4660 or 2.2 percent to 213,750, according to the report. The jobseeker rate rose by 0.1 points to 4.5 percent.
On the other hand, the number of vacancies registered with the RAV fell. They fell by 1.3 percent or 493 to 37,372. Of these, 20,940 jobs were subject to the reporting requirement, which applies to occupations with an unemployment rate of at least 5 percent.
Seco publishes data on short-time work with a time lag: at the end of June, 10,785 people in Switzerland were affected by short-time work. This was 7.9 percent fewer than in May. In contrast, the number of affected company departments rose by 1.9 percent to 696.
