Medicine University Hospital Zurich sets up task force on heart surgery

The University Hospital Zurich has begun setting up a task force on cardiac surgery. The aim is to fully investigate past irregularities at the Department of Cardiac Surgery. From 2016 to 2020, an unexpectedly high number of deaths occurred at the clinic.

The hospital management regrets what happened back then and wants to provide complete clarity, as the University Hospital Zurich (USZ) announced on Friday. The aim is to preserve the trust of patients, referring physicians and the public in the Department of Cardiac Surgery.

After the first indications of irregularities became known in 2019, the USZ initiated several investigations. Improvement measures were also implemented in 2020.
