The explosion took place in the Rappagugg area near the highway shortly before 2.50 a.m. on Sunday morning, as reported by the cantonal police of Graubünden on Sunday. The perpetrators are on the run.

The police are looking for witnesses who may have made observations in connection with the explosion. They have started an investigation in cooperation with the Federal Office of Police (Fedpol) and under the direction of the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG), which is responsible for explosives offenses.

More explosions than ever before

More ATMs have been blown up in Switzerland this year than ever before. According to Fedpol, criminals blew up 25 ATMs by mid-December.

As soon as explosives are used, the Office of the Attorney General of Switzerland (OAG) is generally responsible. According to the OAG, attacks on ATMs are an international phenomenon that affects the whole of Europe. The perpetrators often operate across cantonal and national borders.

According to information from mid-December, the OAG is conducting criminal proceedings in around 100 cases. There are indications of links between various cases, which it is following up in its ongoing investigations. The proceedings are also time-consuming because international legal assistance often has to be requested.
