Due to a "quality problem" with components for Airbus A320 aircraft, up to 628 aircraft worldwide have to be inspected. This is the total number of "potentially affected aircraft", Airbus explained on Tuesday.

However, this does not mean that all of these aircraft are actually affected, Airbus told the AFP news agency.
The European aircraft manufacturer announced on Monday that the defects had occurred in a "limited number" of metal panels from a supplier. The cause of the problem had been "identified" and contained, and all newly manufactured components met the requirements.
In response to media reports about quality problems that delayed the delivery of A320 aircraft, the Airbus share price on the Paris stock exchange fell by more than ten percent on Monday. The price later recovered somewhat.
Software problems at the weekend
Irrespective of this, software problems at Airbus caused a series of flight cancellations worldwide at the weekend. On Friday, the company had called on all airlines with aircraft from the A320 family to ground the affected aircraft until a software update could be carried out. A total of around 6000 aircraft were affected.
The software problem came to light after an incident on October 30 on a JetBlue flight from Cancún, Mexico, to Newark near New York. The A320 had suddenly plummeted over the Gulf of Mexico without any action on the part of the pilots, followed by an emergency landing in Florida.
However, the problem could be solved with a software update, it was said. The rollout of the update went largely without a hitch and there were no massive disruptions to flight operations.
