The shooting permit is valid for 60 days, or until there are no more livestock grazing on the agricultural land in the affected area. This is according to a statement issued by the Uri Department of Safety on Friday.
There were wolf attacks in the Schmidigen area on October 9, which, according to current information, resulted in the deaths of nine sheep. The pasture was protected by an electrified pasture net.
With the nine sheep killed, the damage threshold of at least six farm animals killed has been reached, as the canton further states. As further kills are to be expected in the area, the canton has issued a shooting permit.
The cantons can issue a shooting permit for individual wolves that do not belong to a pack and cause considerable damage to livestock.
