According to forecasts by the International Energy Agency (IEA), global renewable energy capacity is expected to double by 2030. However, growth will be slowed by the change of course in US energy policy.

Dependencies in supply chains and problems with grid integration and financing would also slow down the increase, the IEA announced in Paris on Tuesday.
The USA's focus on fossil energy sources and the abandonment of renewable energy projects has led to a halving of the growth forecast for the USA. The new US energy and climate policy is also having a negative impact on the global growth of renewable energy capacities, explained the IEA.
Self-imposed climate targets will not be achieved
The target set at the 2023 World Climate Conference to triple renewable energy capacity by 2030 compared to 2022 will probably not be achieved. Capacity will probably only increase by a factor of 2.6 by then.
Solar energy accounts for almost 80 percent of global growth in renewable energies, followed by wind power, hydropower, bioenergy and geothermal energy. According to the IEA, low costs, faster approval procedures and broad social acceptance are driving the spread of solar energy.
Wind energy struggles with hurdles
Wind energy is struggling with problems in the supply chain, rising costs and delays in approval. Nevertheless, global capacity is expected to almost double by 2030.
The growing share of wind and solar energy is changing the electricity markets and increasing the challenges of integration, emphasized the Energy Agency. More flexible power supply systems and investments in the power grid are needed.
