Tiktok is struggling with technical problems in the USA at the start of the new joint venture under the direction of US investors. Among other things, there could be problems when publishing posts, the operators announced.

A power failure at one of the data centers over the weekend triggered a chain reaction of faults that have still not been fully resolved, the operators of the US business announced.

The problems have been attracting attention in the US for days - also because some users reported online that they were unable to upload videos of protests in the state of Minnesota to Tiktok or send direct messages with the word "Epstein". The slow publication of documents relating to the investigation into the notorious sex offender Jeffrey Epstein has led to criticism of President Donald Trump's administration in recent weeks.

Oracle, the tech company controlled by Trump supporter Larry Ellison, has played a central role at Tiktok USA since the American business was handed over to new investors.

Tiktok points to disruption

The new US company attributes the problems to the technical malfunction following the power outage. There is no rule prohibiting Epstein's name in direct messages - and videos from Minnnesota can also be found on the platform, it said.

With the transfer of the US business to a new company with American investors, Tiktok's future in the US was secured last week after a year-long standstill. According to a US law, the China-based Tiktok owner Bytedance had to divest itself of at least the business in the US so that the app could continue to operate in the country.

There were fears in the US that the Chinese government could use Tiktok to spy on US citizens and influence public opinion. The platform rejected this. Outside the USA, Tiktok continues to be run by Bytedance.
