After lengthy negotiations, the USA and Argentina have reached a trade agreement. Trump had already helped his ally in Buenos Aires out of a predicament with billions.

The framework agreement on reciprocal trade and investment provides, among other things, for the government in Buenos Aires to grant privileged access to the Argentinian market for a range of US products such as medicines, chemicals, machinery, medical equipment, vehicles and agricultural products, according to a White House statement. In return, the United States will lift tariffs on certain raw materials and pharmaceutical products.
Agreements were also reached on the dismantling of trade barriers, the protection of intellectual property, agriculture, labor law, environmental protection and subsidies. The US government also concluded similar agreements with Ecuador, Guatemala and El Salvador.
Argentina's ultra-liberal head of state Javier Milei is considered a close ally of US President Donald Trump. In recent months, the government in Buenos Aires has been campaigning intensively for a trade deal with Washington.
Trump's government is already supporting Milei's radical reform agenda in Argentina with massive financial aid. The US Treasury Department recently bought up pesos on a large scale in order to support the exchange rate of Argentina's national currency, which is considered overvalued. It also provided the Argentinian central bank with additional liquidity in the form of a currency swap worth 20 billion US dollars.
