Vaccinations and the associated consultations will be excluded from the basic insurance deductible from next year. With this step, the Federal Council wants to increase the vaccination rate in Switzerland.

In future, it will be possible to be vaccinated against tetanus, measles, Covid-19, Mpox and penumococcus without a deductible, according to the press release issued on Monday. Anyone who has not yet exhausted their deductible will have to pay less for the vaccination. However, the deductible must still be paid.

The change will apply from January 1, 2026 and is part of the action plan of the National Vaccination Strategy. In addition, basic insurance will now cover the vaccination of pregnant women against the RS virus, which can cause serious illness in infants in particular. Antibodies from the mother should protect babies from birth.

From July 1, 2025, basic insurance will cover the early detection of bowel cancer (colorectal cancer) for 50- to 75-year-olds. Today, the upper age limit is 69. Half of the cases are diagnosed in people over 70, the Federal Council wrote on the new scheme.

From the middle of the year, people with chronic illnesses will also be relieved of administrative burdens. They will no longer have to prove their additional need for resources and items every year.
