"Production is currently unaffected. In view of the dynamic situation, however, effects on production cannot be ruled out in the short term," reads an entry on the Group's intranet, which is available to dpa. A spokesperson confirmed this on request. Bild" had previously reported.

According to the report, Volkswagen is already in talks with the employment agency about possible short-time working for several tens of thousands of employees. The company would not comment on this when asked. The VW intranet only stated: "Volkswagen is in close contact with all relevant parties against the background of the current situation in order to identify possible risks at an early stage and to be able to decide on the necessary measures." New developments will be reported.

Manufacturers' association VDA already warned of possible failures

There are supply problems at Nexperia after the Dutch government took control of the company, which was previously managed by a Chinese parent company. China subsequently stopped the export of Nexperia products such as chips for the automotive industry.

The German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA) had already warned of possible downtime due to the problems at Nexperia - including production stoppages.

Mercedes-Benz does not expect any short-term downtime due to the problems. Thanks to good cooperation with suppliers and lessons learned from the chip crisis, "we are covered in the short term", the car manufacturer said in response to an inquiry. "We are working intensively with our partners to close any gaps that may occur." Mercedes is monitoring developments. However, it is difficult to make reliable forecasts at the present time.
