The search for a total of five missing people following a severe storm in the Maggia Valley last weekend is being hampered by the high water level of the river. According to information from the Ticino cantonal police, it is currently only possible to search on the surface of the water.

The water level of the Maggia does not allow for more thorough checks at the moment, according to a press release from the cantonal police.
Around fifteen specialists are currently involved in the search, including members of the cantonal police (search and investigation unit, dog squadron, lake unit and helicopter specialists) as well as rescue teams from the Swiss Alpine Club (SAC). The searchers are supported by military helicopters and civilian helicopter crews.
The operations are particularly focused on the areas of Peccia and Prato Sornico as well as the section of the river between Pian di Peccia and Bignasco.
