The 53-year-old plans to speak ( 8.30 a.m. CET) to the Council of Europe's Human Rights Committee, which has been looking into his case. Assange returned to his home country of Australia in June after twelve years in embassy asylum and prison in the UK. He had pleaded guilty to passing on confidential information for the defense as part of an agreement with the US judiciary and had been sentenced to prison, which he had already served. The Council of Europe, which sees itself as the guardian of human rights, has 46 members since Russia's exclusion.
