The number of people caught in avalanches was 216, as the Institute for Snow and Avalanche Research (SLF) wrote on its website on Tuesday. Events between October 1, 2024 and April 14, 2025 were taken into account. The 20-year average number of avalanche fatalities is 19.
The SLF cited three possible reasons for the low number of victims last winter: no accidents with many fatalities, the registered avalanches were mostly small and therefore less dangerous than in other years, and "good luck".
