A woman died in an apartment fire in Lausanne on Sunday evening. The fire broke out in an apartment on Chemin des Sauges. The city police evacuated the neighboring apartments as a precaution.

The fire broke out at around 7.35 p.m. on Sunday, as the Vaud police headquarters reported on Tuesday. During the extinguishing work, the emergency services discovered a deceased person in the affected apartment. The victim was the occupant, a Swiss woman born in 1970.
The municipal police evacuated the neighboring apartments as a precaution. Some of the residents had already left the building before the emergency services arrived. Everyone was able to return to their apartments at 9 pm.
The public prosecutor's office of the Lausanne district has opened an investigation. The investigation is being conducted by fire experts from the Lausanne criminal investigation department and the Vaud cantonal police, according to a statement.
