Knife attacks on passers-by
The woman had initially injured a man with a knife in the Westendstrasse area behind the Theresienwiese, according to the police. A short time later, she injured a woman with a knife at Schwanthalerhöhe. Several patrols were deployed to arrest the woman, but she continued to wield the knife.
The police then fired. The police were initially unable to say how many shots were fired. The woman was taken from there to a Munich hospital.
Memories of the crime in Hamburg
Nothing was initially known about the condition of the two people injured by the knife. It was unclear whether the woman was related to them.
There was no danger to the general public, the police said in a brief initial statement to the media in the evening. The crime took place at the Theresienwiese, where the Oktoberfest takes place every year in the fall.
The case is reminiscent of an attack at Hamburg Central Station around two weeks ago: A woman had stabbed herself indiscriminately on a platform for long-distance trains, which was full of people. According to the police, 18 people were injured in the attack. Officers arrested the 39-year-old woman. A magistrate ordered the suspect to be placed in a psychiatric hospital.
