Knife attacks on passers-by
The woman initially injured a 56-year-old man with a knife in the Westendstrasse area behind the Theresienwiese, the police said. He was slightly injured and was treated as an outpatient. A little later, she injured a 25-year-old woman at Schwanthalerhöhe with a knife. Her degree of injury was initially unclear, but there was no danger to her life.
The police could not say for sure whether the woman was related to the two victims - but this was rather unlikely.
Several patrols were deployed to arrest the 30-year-old, who lives in Munich, but continued to handle the knife. The police then fired. The police were initially unable to say how many shots were fired.
In the evening, the criminal investigation department was still on site to secure evidence.
Memories of the crime in Hamburg
There was no danger to the general public, the police had said in a brief initial statement to the media in the evening. The crime took place at the Theresienwiese, where the Oktoberfest is held every year in the fall.
The case is reminiscent of an attack at Hamburg Central Station around two weeks ago: A woman had stabbed herself indiscriminately on a platform for long-distance trains, which was full of people. According to the police, 18 people were injured in the attack. Officers arrested the 39-year-old woman. A magistrate ordered the suspect to be placed in a psychiatric hospital.
