Six people suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the incident on Saturday in the town of Tamworth and were taken to hospital, according to the state's fire department. Fire Chief Sean Toomey estimated that about 70 people fell or slid about 8 feet (about 2.40 meters), he told ABC's WMUR. According to him, the ceremony had just begun when the floor gave way.

The cause of the accident was initially unclear. However, a statement from the fire department quoted by the media said that investigators suspect that the building was overcrowded with more than 144 people. According to the portal "In Depth NH", the wedding party was in a maple sugar shack, which is located in a natural area near the town and is rented out together with other buildings for celebrations.

Tamworth is a town in eastern New Hampshire, in a lake region near the White Mountains and is located north of Concord, the state capital.
