The World Conference on Biological Diversity in Cali, Colombia, has failed to reach an agreement on certain financing issues. This was confirmed by a spokesperson for the Federal Environment Ministry. The representatives of around 200 countries at the 16th UN Conference on Biological Diversity (COP16) were still unable to reach an agreement during the night.

The two-week conference was primarily concerned with the technical implementation of the global nature treaty adopted two years ago and financing issues. In Montreal in 2022, around 200 countries agreed on 23 goals to be achieved by 2030.

For example, it was agreed that at least 30 percent of the world's land and sea areas should be protected. In addition, the industrialized countries are to provide around 20 billion dollars annually for the protection of biodiversity by 2025.
