Yes committee wants to achieve fairer taxes with individual taxation

According to the bill passed by parliament by a narrow majority in the summer of 2025, married couples will no longer be taxed jointly in future, but separately, like unmarried couples. As the decision is being opposed by several parties and cantons, the electorate will now have to express its opinion.

The Yes committee argues that the change will correct the unconstitutional marriage penalty. And because second incomes would be taxed less heavily, every hour of gainful employment would be worthwhile. This, in turn, would provide the economy with additional workers and higher incomes would improve old-age pensions.

The committee includes the FDP, GLP, Greens and SP and their youth parties, business associations such as Economiesuisse and the Employers' Association and Alliance F, the Federation of Swiss Women's Organizations.
