Net operating income, which is a measure of operating performance, increased by 2.9 percent to CHF 698 million. On balance, net profit rose by 11.1 percent to CHF 668 million in the months from January to June, as ZKB announced on Friday.
Due to the lower interest rates, net interest income fell by CHF 36 million to CHF 822 million. The bank was able to compensate for this with higher earnings in the areas of commission and services (+ CHF 21 million) and trading (+ CHF 56 million). Total operating income rose by 2.6 percent to CHF 1.60 billion.
In addition, ZKB achieved an extraordinary profit of CHF 62 million from the sale of Zürcher Kantonalbank Österreich to Liechtensteinische Landesbank.
In terms of assets under management, the bank has recorded an increase of 13.6 billion to 534.4 billion francs since the beginning of the year. The bank received net new assets of CHF 7.4 billion. The reduction of 3.2 billion due to the sale of the Austrian business was more than compensated for.
"Our operating performance has increased overall in all areas and we are seeing broad-based growth in our core segments, which is reflected in our operating income," said ZKB CEO Urs Baumann in the press release. Looking ahead, he expects the geopolitical environment to remain volatile and uncertain. At the same time, the good first half of the year makes him confident that "we will once again be able to achieve a very pleasing annual result."
