Following the significant increase at the start of the year, passenger numbers at Zurich Airport continued to grow in the second month of 2025. The main reason for this was the increase in local travelers.

In February, 2.03 million passengers traveled through Switzerland's largest airport. This was 0.9 percent more than in the same month last year, as the airport announced on Wednesday evening.

Meanwhile, the number of flight movements increased by 1.9 percent to 18,105 take-offs and landings. Seat occupancy fell by 2 percentage points to 75 percent.

The increase in the number of passengers was primarily due to local passengers. Their number rose by 4.9% to 1.43 million, while the number of transfer passengers fell by 7.5% to 597,038.

Decline in commercial revenue

Commercial revenue was unable to keep pace with the growth rates. This fell by 2.0% year-on-year to CHF 41.1 million in February.

The majority of this was attributable to the stores behind the security checkpoint, the so-called airside, where sales rose by 2.4 percent to 23.2 million francs. In contrast, sales on the landside fell by 7.2 percent to 17.8 million.

In the cargo business, 34,823 tons were handled at Zurich Airport in February. This was 2.3 percent more than in the same month last year.
