The airport registered a total of 20,017 take-offs and landings in November. Compared to the same period last year, this is an increase of 6.0%, as an analysis of the data by the news agency AWP shows. The figure for 2019, the last year before the coronavirus pandemic, was also significantly exceeded by 2.6%.
Compared to the traditionally busy autumn vacation month of October, however, the number of aircraft movements fell by 18.2%. Experience has shown that November tends to be one of the weaker travel months of the year and operations are likely to pick up again in December towards the end of the year.
Trend continues
Since the beginning of the year, more aircraft took off or landed in Zurich at the end of November than in the same period last year. Switzerland's largest airport recorded a total of 245,096 aircraft movements, which corresponds to an annual increase of 3.8 percent.
However, the total traffic volume is still 1.6% below the pre-coronavirus figure from 2019. However, the gap is steadily narrowing; in the middle of the year, the discrepancy was still around 5 percent and at the beginning of the year it was even higher.
Aircraft movements at Zurich Airport are recorded daily and include all flights under instrument flight rules (IFR), i.e. scheduled, cargo, business and private flights. These figures are related to passenger development, but show certain deviations due to differences in capacity utilization and the size of the aircraft used.
Zurich Airport will publish detailed passenger and traffic figures for the month of November on December 10.
