The confirmed cases involved either a criminal offense or maltreatment, the Zurich Children's Hospital announced on Tuesday. In 110 cases, the suspicion could neither be confirmed nor dispelled. In 52 cases, the injuries could be attributed to accidents.
Compared to the 530 cases in 2024, the number rose by 40 cases, or 7.5 percent, last year.
The 732 cases are more than ever before, the report continues. In a third of the cases, the children were physically abused. The spectrum ranges from minor superficial skin injuries to serious cases with fatal outcomes.
The Child Protection Group and Victim Counseling Center at Zurich Children's Hospital deals with children from infancy onwards who have been abused or are at risk of being abused. The protection group plans interventions in specific cases and tries to protect children from abuse.
