With its decision, the court confirmed the first-instance ruling of the Zurich district court from March 2023. The ruling is not yet legally binding and can be appealed to the Federal Supreme Court.
The public prosecutor had demanded a higher sentence of 13.5 years. The defense lawyer pleaded for the crime to be classified as endangering life and a prison sentence of 6.5 years.
The young man had almost strangled a prostitute to death and robbed her in Zurich in June 2018. He then fled to Brazil. When he returned in 2022, he was arrested. He has been in custody ever since.
