On Wednesday, the Zurich High Court sentenced a 40-year-old man to 13 years' imprisonment and a 300-franc fine. It found him guilty of the intentional killing of a 58-year-old man.

During his sentence, the man must undergo outpatient therapy, as the Zurich High Court ruled on Wednesday. After his release from prison, the Iranian will be banned from the country for 12 years. The ban applies to the entire Schengen area. The ruling is not yet legally binding. It can be appealed to the Federal Supreme Court.

With its decision, the Supreme Court confirmed the judgment of the Zurich District Court of December 2023. However, it went beyond the prison sentence of ten years and 20 days imposed by the court of first instance.

In March 2022, the defendant, who had several previous convictions, had brutally beaten a 58-year-old acquaintance with his fists and a wooden club during an argument in Zurich. The victim succumbed to his injuries in hospital a few days later.
