The summer of 2025 will be average - at least if you believe the predictive power of Zurich's Böögg. It only exploded 26 minutes after the fire was lit on Sechseläutenplatz.
After 26 minutes and 30 seconds, the time had come: the Zurich Böögg finally went up in the air. The first firecrackers had already exploded around 10 minutes earlier. 26 minutes until the final bang is neither particularly long nor particularly short - and the summer of 2025 is expected to be correspondingly mediocre.
But there is hope: a statistical analysis of previous Böögg predictions was sobering, as "Meteonews" recently reported. The Böögg is actually a very poor summer prophet, and there is practically no discernible correlation between its predictions and the average temperature of the following summer.
The Böögg wore cherry earrings
"Cherries, crypto and clichés" was the motto of this year's guest canton of Zug, and the Böögg was decorated accordingly: with cherry earrings and bitcoin and cherry pie symbols on his bow tie.
Numerous spectators watched the parade of the guilds through Zurich's city center in the afternoon in beautiful spring weather. Among the more than 100 guests of honor this year were four Federal Councillors: Martin Pfister (center), Albert Rösti (SVP), Guy Parmelin (SVP) and Ignazio Cassis (FDP).
Last year, for the first time in the history of Sechseläuten, the burning of the Böögg had to be canceled at short notice. Due to strong gusts of wind, lighting the large bonfire would have been too dangerous. At the end of June, the "Böögg aazönde" was held in Heiden in last year's guest canton of Appenzell-Ausserrhoden.
