Filming for a "Harry Potter" series has begun in the UK. It is to be broadcast on television from 2027. But without actor Daniel Radcliffe.
On Monday, the US media company Warner Bros. Discovery published a photo of Scotsman Dominic McLaughlin, who will replace British actor Radcliffe, who became famous in the cinema as Harry Potter, in the role of the famous wizard's apprentice in the series format.
McLaughlin is roughly the same age as Radcliffe was at the start of his film career and wears the same round glasses.
The series adaptation of the popular books, which have already been successful as films and stage plays, will be filmed at Warner Bros. studios in Leavesden near London, the studio announced. The episodes will reportedly be shown on the HBO and HBO Max platforms. An exact date for the broadcast was not given.
According to Warner Bros. Discovery, the long-announced series will run for "ten years" with the stories from the seven books. The author of the books, J.K. Rowling, will oversee the series as executive producer, with Brit Mark Mylod directing.
The other roles have also been recast: Arabella Stanton will embody Hermione Granger - instead of Emma Watson - and Alastair Stout will take on the role of Ron Weasley.
The first "Harry Potter" volume was published on June 26, 1997. To date, the seven volumes have sold more than 450 million copies around the world and have been translated into 79 languages. The novels have been adapted into eight films, which have grossed around 6 billion francs at the global box office.
