Sebastian Nordmann is the new artistic director of the Lucerne Festival. On Tuesday, he presented the program for the first edition under his direction to the media.

What American music history has to offer can be heard at the Lucerne Festival from August 13 to September 13. The new artistic director Sebastian Nordmann has chosen "American Dreams" as the motto for his first edition.
This year, the Lucerne Festival wants to make references to musical and film music, jazz and minimal music. The organizers announced this to the media on Tuesday. With over 120 events, the festival is one of the largest classical music events in Switzerland.
Works by American composers such as George Gershwin and Steve Reich will be performed to mark the motto. The lyricist Amanda Gorman will also be performing in Lucerne. In 2021, she recited one of her poems at the inauguration of then US President Joe Biden, which brought her instant international fame.
The festival is thus entering a new era in terms of content and with a new artistic director. Nordmann has taken over the directorship from Michael Haefliger, who led the Lucerne Festival for 26 years.
