Sinéad O'Connor will not only be bid farewell by her family, but her fans will also be able to attend part of the funeral. Her relatives have now explained this in a statement, which is available to the "Irish Times".
In it, her family announces that the singer's funeral will take place on August 8 in the Irish town of Bray. O'Connor lived in the town, which is located around 20 kilometers south of Dublin, for 15 years.
"Sinead loved living in Bray and the people there," said the family. "With this procession, her family would like to pay tribute to the love of the people of Co Wicklow and beyond since she passed to another place last week."
A funeral procession will first take place at 10:30am, passing O'Connor's home, and any fan of the singer will be able to take part. The mourners will also march past a beach promenade. This will be followed by a private funeral service to which only family members are invited.
The 56-year-old became world-famous thanks to her hit "Nothing Compares 2 U". O'Connor was found dead in her apartment on July 26. The exact cause of her death is not publicly known. However, the police are not assuming foul play. O'Connor's body was autopsied, but it is still unclear whether the results of the examination will be made public.
