The Lucerne Festival opened on Friday evening at the KKL Lucerne in the presence of Federal Councillor Albert Rösti. It is the last edition for which Artistic Director Michael Haefliger is responsible.
Haefliger led Switzerland's largest classical music event for 26 years. He expanded the festival and opened it up. At the ceremony, he said that he wanted to really hit the ground running in his last year with a diverse program.
The motto of the festival is "Open End". Federal Councillor Rösti saw a parallel to politics. This is work on the unfinished, the unfinishable. Politics never ends. "Every decision confronts us with new decisions," he said.
On the opening evening, the Lucerne Festival Orchestra will perform under the direction of its chief conductor Riccardo Chailly. The concert will be broadcast live in Inselipark.
