Gender discussion at Moon&Stars

Loco Escrito: "For me, it's not a problem that only one woman is performing here"

Candy Dulfer will be the only woman on the Piazza Grande in 2022. This caused a strong reaction in the run-up to the event. In this interview, the headliners Hecht, Dabu Fantastic, Loco Escrito and Bligg reveal their views on the matter - and what they are doing to promote women.

When the organizers of the Moon&Stars Festival presented the line-up for 2022 for the first time, it was not only met with enthusiasm.

Some Swiss artists were annoyed that no women would be playing on the Piazza Grande. Candy Dulfer's appearance was only communicated in a second step.

The criticism also affected the pop band Hecht, the main act on Friday evening: "We had very long discussions on the subject," says guitarist Christoph Schröter. Their calls on the subject took hours.

Singer Stefan Buck adds: "It's not cool for us to be at the top of this program either, although we're proud to have achieved it." Buck hopes that, as a well-known pop band, they can do their bit to make things different in the future.

Loco Escrito has a different opinion: "For me, it's not a big problem that only one woman is performing here."

Dealing more directly with the advancement of women

Singer Dana, who herself performed on the Piazza Piccola, the small festival stage at Moon&Stars, believes that a lot still needs to be done in terms of promoting female musicians.

The Biel singer and songwriter Dana has a tip for other newcomers: "It has helped me to be very direct about the things I want and to say what I want." Especially if the wish seems exaggerated or intangible.
