Whenever Massive Attack was on stage, he was there: Brit Angelo Bruschini.

The guitarist had been supporting the trio at their gigs since 1995 and played concerts with the cult band all over the world. As Massive Attack have now confirmed on their Instagram channel, Bruschini has died.

"We are devastated," the group wrote. "We were so lucky to share this life together. He was a brilliant, eccentric talent. It's impossible to put your contribution to our band into words. Rest in peace."

Specialists wished Bruschini "good luck"

Bruschini had previously posted on his own social media channels that he had been diagnosed with lung cancer. Specialists on the field are said not to have given him a good chance: "They told me: 'Good luck'."

However, Bruschini took the stroke of fate in his stride: "I've had a great life, seen the whole world several times and met wonderful people. Now the door is closing."

Massive Attack are a trip-hop band from Bristol that was founded in London in 1988. Their hit songs "Unfinished Sympathy" and "Teardrop" made them famous worldwide.
