The Swiss Youth Film Festival opened in Zurich on Wednesday with the world premiere of the film "Cope" by Alice Coleman. According to the organizers, 48 productions will be shown at the film festival until Sunday.
Filmmaker Coleman's victory in the "Klappe Auf!" competition gave her the opportunity to make this year's opening film at Zurich's Abaton cinema, the organizers announced in a press release.
The documentary "Im Park - Biz Bewiise Muesch Dich" by Rubie Sturm and the experimental film "The Dance of Becoming a Woman" by Ronja Lina Riklin were also shown at the start of the largest national film festival for up-and-coming talent.
The guest country at this year's edition of the Youth Film Festival is Japan. The "Heartbeat of Japan" and "Whispers Seem Enigmatic" programmes would provide insights into young Japanese filmmaking, the organizers promised.
The Youth Film Days laid an important foundation for young filmmakers, Nadine Adler Spiegel, Co-Head of the Film Section of the Federal Office of Culture (FOC), was quoted as saying in the communiqué. The aim is to create visibility and make connections. This year, the Swiss Youth Film Festival will be supported for the first time by the FOC's Film Section, the press release added.
