The 19-year-old from Basel, who is contesting his first season in this category, has only finished better in Austin in mid-April. In the USA, he scored his only two world championship points to date in 14th place.
The victory was secured by Spaniard José Antonio Rueda, who, like Dettwiler, rides a KTM and celebrated his first Grand Prix victory. Colombian David Alonso, who finished fourth in Alcañiz, remains the world championship leader.
